Asmara, the capital city of Eritrea, might as well be mistaken as a small Italian town in the middle of an arid land. While under Italian rule, European architects built many new buildings in then radical Art-Deco design. Apart from that, Asmara became home to a number of Italian community, which added to the city's Italian vibe.
But Asmara boasts more than just beautiful architecture. The Eritrean National Museum contains exhibits on the various ethnic groups of Eritrea, as well as life in the countryside. There's also the Central Market, a key attraction in the city where people from all over the country come to see.
Along Harnet Avenue, tourists will find the city's most iconic structure, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, which is considered one of the finest Lombard-Romanesque style buildings outside of Italy. For a bit of relaxing fun, visitor's can visit the Bowling Alley, one of the last genuine 50s alley left in the world.
