Giza is an area located on the west bank of the Nile, on the fringes of Cairo. Although considered a city, it has been absorbed as part of the bustling and very populated Egyptian capital. With almost 3 million people living here, it is the third largest city in the country.
The city is well-known for being the location of the country's ultimate attraction, the iconic Pyramids of Giza, which is situated on the Giza Plateau along with the Sphinx. Constructed in 2500 BC to house Egypt's dead pharaohs, the pyramids are the only Ancient Wonder of the World left still standing today.
Aside from the pyramids, visitors to Giza can stop by the Solar Barque Museum which features the excavated and reconstructed solar boat of Khufu. Or go on a fun camel ride. Just don't miss the Pyramids Sound and Light Show.
Because of its location near the ancient site and Cairo, Giza is the perfect option for travellers looking for better hotel deals and entertainment away from the bustle of the capital.
