Aswan, the southernmost city of Egypt, boasts a particularly stunning location along the Nile River. Palm-fringed islands in between the sparkling waters of the river and the bright amber sands of the desert, as well as feluccas with white sails gliding past ancient ruins are what make this place so mesmerizing.
While the city exudes a more African ambience than the northern towns of Egypt, Aswan remains one of the best places in Egypt to visit. It is the perfect base for discovering the temples of Philae and Kabasha, as well as the Sun Temple of Rameses II. Day trips to Darow Camel Market, Edfu and Esna, Kom Ombo temples are also available from Aswan.
The city's laid-back vibe is so easy to get used to. Spend time just hanging out without any specific destination and still have a great time with many of Aswan's attractions and activities. Avoid January and February though, as many Egyptians visit the city and it can get crowded with hotels booked for the whole two months.
