Cuenca

Located 2500 meters above the sea level, Cuenca was initially an Inca town until it got conquered by The Spanish in 1533. Now it is the cultural and artistic center of Ecuador. Like many other cities in Ecuador, Cuenca is also declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city has a very charming historical center, decorated with cobbles streets, colonial houses and old churches. Unlike Quito, Cuenca is a more quite, conservative city. It inhabitants are more traditional. Although it lacks nightlife, Cuenca is a great destination for culture and history lovers. Being a melting point for different cultures, many different types of art and customs can be witnessed in this high but modest city.
