Odense is the capital of Funen island and the third largest city of Denmark, Northern Europe. Odense is named after the chief of the Scandinavian gods – Odin. It is a settlement with more than 1000 years of history, which lived his major growth in the 19th century, after the completion of a canal which linked Odense with the sea and turned it in the major port of Funen. Nowadays it is a medium-sized university and manufacturing town with close to 180.000 inhabitants. Thanks to the university community the city is quite alive and offers interesting entertainment and nightlife. There are also sandy beaches and interesting old town architecture and museums that may provide some good stays in Odense.
