Ayia Napa or Agia Napa used to be a small Cypriot fishing village. After the division in the year 1974, however, the city started attracting tourists, not only because of the white beaches but also because of the enticing and lively night life observed in Ayia Napa. Many people even feel that the city is comparable to the popular party destination: Ibiza in Spain. The beaches in Ayia Napa are known for their blue green waters and white sand. Swimming and various water sports may be done in beaches such as the Nissi Beach, the Makronisos Beach, etc. Of course, beach parties are also popular in the city. Ayia Napa nightlife is usually experienced in The Square, with the most popular spots being Ice, Bedrock and the Castle Club. Aside from the beaches and the bars, Ayia Napa also has the Ayia Napa Monastery, an attraction built in the 1500s, and is a must visit by people of all ages especially those who are interested in exploring a cultural Ayia Napa structure.
