Heredia, founded in 1706, used to be known as the City of the Flowers and the home of Spanish aristocrats during the Colonial Era. Today, Heredia is one of the most attractive cities in Costa Rica. It houses the country's National University and is called Costa Rica's University Town. Despite being close to Costa Rica's capital San Jose, Heredia still retains its colonial charm and offers a serene and relaxed ambiance to tourists and natives.
The main Heredia attraction is the Parque Central which is rich in history and appeal. Here you'll find several interesting sites such as the Casa de la Culture which is considered as a structure of art and music and was once home to President Alfredo Gonzales Flores, and the El Fortin which is a Spanish fort and is Heredia's symbol. When in Heredia, do not forget to join daytrips that will take you Barva and Santa Domingo de Heredia where you'll find parks and beautiful waterfalls. When in Costa Rica, make it a point to visit Heredia.
