Xi'an in the central north-western part of China was formerly called as Chang'an in the olden times. It is a historically significant city in the province of Shaanxi, as well as its capital. It is one of the most ancient cities in the country, boasting over 3,000 years of history. In fact, Xi'an is included in the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It has over 8 million inhabitants, most of which are Han Chinese, although there are also some living in the city belonging to other ethnic minorities.   As one of the few cities to profit from China's economic reform programme, Xi’an has resurfaced as an important centre for education, industrial, and culture in the region. It boasts of research and development facilities, space exploration programs, and national security measures.   With so much history under the city’s belt, it should not be a wonder that many of Xi’an’s attractions are of utmost cultural significance. Relics, museums, and ruins – all of these are what makes the city famous among travellers.   Among the very first things to visit in the city are the famous Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses. This particular landmark has been featured in so many movies that a visit to Xi'an is not complete without it. What makes this a popular destination is the sheer number of terracotta statues uncovered. 7,000 life-size clay soldiers, complete with weapons and some even riding chariots, stand guard at the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.   Another famous city landmark is the City Wall of Xi'an. It boasts the record of the largest city wall in the world and one of the most intact walls to survive in the country. The wall also features a moat and circular park which surrounds the inner city of Xi'an.   Other must-see attractions in the city are the Wolong Temple, Big and Little Goose Pagoda, Grand Mosque, and Eight Immortals Temple, to name a few. But for visitors who desire to know more of the city, a visit to the museums, parks, and historic ruins such as Banpo Village Ruins, Huaqing Palace, Mao Ling Mausoleum, and Taiping National Park, are some of Xi’an’s activities one can do.   Because travelling requires a lot of energy some nourishment in the form of food are needed.
