The Kingdom of Cambodia used to be called the State of Funan, with its history starting during the 1st century A.D. It was ruled by a series of powerful Angkorian kings, originating from India and the Javanese portion of Cambodia. There are several interesting places in Cambodia, but the 3 main areas that should not be passed up on are the Siemreap (Angkor), the South Coast, and Phnom Penh.
Cambodia is rich in historical and cultural sites. There's the Angkor Wat Complex made up of several temples e.g. the Angkor Wat Temple, the Ta Phrom, and the Bayon Temple. The Silver Pagoda, which has been around ever since the 1860's is an amazing attraction because of its Buddha that's mainly constructed from gold and diamonds. When in Cambodia, steer clear of demonstrations and political gatherings. Dressing in modest clothing, for example, avoiding torn clothes and shorts is also required when visiting religious sites. Taking off shoes upon entering temples and homes is a sign of respect.
