La Paz, or Nuestra Senora de la Paz, is the capital of Bolivia, located in the centre of the country and in an area surrounded by the highest mountain, the Illimani. Some districts of the city are over 3.500 meters above the level of the sea and the landscape seems to be a lunar one.
However what mostly represents La Paz are the people and its culture, a mixture between the "indios" and the Spanish heritage. Examples of this are the beautiful "Iglesia de San Francisco", Plaza Murillo, the Spanish district and the markets.
The markets are one of the major attractions of the city: in particular the handicraft one, "mercado de la hechiceria" or "de brujas" are the most visited and for sure something that a traveller cannot miss, as it's not difficult to find magic herbs, wizards, miracle herbs and so on.
If you are fond of culture, the museum "Juan de Vargas" and an historical one can show you old handicraft masterpieces.
