Porto-Novo is the administrative capital of Benin in Africa.
The city of Porto-Novo is the most important administrative center of Benin. It combines the ancient history of the Benin kings with its slavery heritage and contemporary development of country.
The city deserves a stay of a couple of days as it has several groups of interesting landmarks to visit. It holds the Palais Royal of King Toffa which gives a good impression of how African royalty lived before the Colonial times. his is well combined with the Musee Ethnographique of Porto Novo which has a good collection of Yoruba masks.
Other landmarks include buildings dating from the times when the Portuguese used the city as a base for slave trade or Grand Marche d'Adjara which is a marked held every fourth day. There are also some nice day-trips available from Porto Novo to near-by lagoon based villages.
