The city of San Ignacio itself is not remarkable by anything very special as it is one rather cosmopolitan town of west Belize. It has a lively community of foreigners with the majority of those the students taking part in the archaeological excavations in the area.
Another attraction that gathers here tourists are the natural reserves that are near-by and in which you are able to witness many interesting species of birds and small animals living in the forests and caves of the region.
On the more modern side of things in San Ignacio you may enjoy gourmet dining, horse riding and canoing in the near-by Macal and Mopan rivers.
