Brest is a historical city in Belarus, Europe.
The city of Brest is almost 1000 years old and full of history. Its location between Minsk and Warsaw made it and important trade and military post. It switched hands between Poland and the Belorussian and Russian kings a number of times, to end up in the Soviet Union after World War II. The city suffered serious destruction during this war and was almost completely rebuild after the war.
Nowadays Brest is a modern city in mostly Soviet architectural style, with lively cultural life and a number of landmarks. Some of the buildings that survived the war include the Fortress, holding a museum which chronicles its history back to the 13th century and the Belaya Vezha (the White Tower), also famous as Kamenets Tower.
