Australia is one really magic place, both country and continent, and considered as the biggest island in the world as well.
Speaking of Australia always makes us consider several sides of this vast country. It is a place with unique nature and animal live, but it is unique and for its Aboriginal people, which had very special culture and way of live. If we add to this mix the modern development of Australia like one of the “New Worlds” and the rise of its economy in the recent years we get one extremely unique and different place which is worth visiting by all means.
Australia is a place of natural beauty and diversity like no other. It is an island-continent with mountains, beaches, green shores and desert heart all in the same time. By the shores of Australia we have some of the best beaches and surf attractions that are available in the world, while close by we have the unique Great Barrier Reef, collecting divers from all over the world in the small city of Caims. In the state-island of Tasmania we may enjoy the of one of the biggest World Heritage sites by UNESCO, while the state of Queensland we may visit dense rain-forests and spectacular waterfalls, while trying to spot the rare species living in several National parks.
On the other hand we have the unique Aboriginal legacy of Australia. These people populated the vast continent for some 40-70.000 years and created one very special link between the people and the nature of Australia. Their unique culture was based on creating oral and mental traditions and social bounds that are directly linked with the land, life and nature of Australia. Nevertheless their way of live is considered as one of the reasons creating the vast deserts in the heart of Australia, as their poor agricultural methods resulted in destroying vast areas of living spaces inside the continent. Nowadays the Aboriginal legacy still lives in a small number of communities that are still living life similar to their ancestors, while there is a big number of Aboriginal people trying to find their hard way in the jungle of the modern life of Australia.
The first visitors in Australia are considered some travelers from Europe and Asia around the 15th century, that considered the place uninhabitable and left. In 1770 the expedition leaded by captain James Cook landed in modern day Sydney and marked the beginning of new era for the land and the people of Australia. In the 19th century Australia was a place for sending convicts from the British empire and those were a significant part of the European population those days. In the beginning of the 20th century Australia became independent nation under the British crown and as of 1988 the power of the British Parliament to legislate for Australia ended officially. Nowadays Australians are a cosmopolitan mix of many different settlers from many different nations. They however tend to live in enclaves and not mix much with each other which makes the difference between the cities of Australia and the big cosmopolitan cities of the world.
There are several cities that you should visit when planning a trip to Australia. One of them is the largest and most cosmopolitan Sydney with the big mix of everything that you may wish – sunny and surf-able beaches, architectural sites, cultural events on a big scale and all kinds of modern attractions. If you are in for more outdoor exploration or wish to experience deeper cultural atmosphere, then the capital Canberra, Darwin, Adelaide or Perth are the right place for you. Of course sunny beaches are widely accessible, so always plan some time to relax on a nice beach for a day or 2. But if you are in for serious beaching and surfing, than Brisbane is the place – in the north of the city are one of the best beaches of Australia, while in the south is the well known Sunshine coast with affordable relaxation for everyone.
