Luanda is the capital and biggest city of Angola in West Africa.
The city of Luanda is struggling with the political and economical problems that Angola is facing. Most of its population is living under the poverty level and crime is flourishing.
Luanda was build like a Portuguese port in 1575 and was a slave trading center for centuries. After the stop of the slave trade the city saw decline until oil and diamond trades were introduced. Since than and especially after the independence of Angola Luanda is the most important trading hub of the country.
The main landmarks of Luanda are the Portuguese fortress with the Museum of Armed Forces and the National Museum of Anthropology.
