Bright, colourful Tirana has changed a lot over the years. From being a dull, gray city, Tirana is now covered with stripes of red, blocks of orange, and circles of purple and pink. This proves, quite amazingly, what a coat of paint can do to upgrade a city's image.
The city's main avenues boast of relics from its Ottoman Empire, Italian, and communist past - minarets and murals guarded  by armed soldiers to forts and mosques dating back to the middle ages. Meanwhile, at the centre of the city, tourists will find the main entertainment and business area, appropriately called The Block. This is where locals like to hang out in bars and clubs for a fun evening.
Tirana is not just a place to have a fab night in, but also a place where visitors can enjoy a refreshing and laid-back retreat. Mount Dajti is the perfect place to get a panoramic view of the city, while Fort Preza enjoys a perfect backdrop - the Kruja Mountain.
